4 world leaders in race yacht construction have formed a consortium to produce the monohulls for the next 2 Volvo Ocean Races

Now it is official: the Organisers of the Volvo Ocean Race have introduced the New Volvo 65 Class for the world's toughest ocean race. The new high tech yachts will be 65 foot (20m) long monohulls designed by Farr Yacht Design.

After winning the Route du Rhum 2006 on a 60 foot trimaran, as well as the 2010 race on a 50 foot trimaran, Lionel Lemonchois has launched the building of an 80 foot (24.28 m) trimaran, in the hope of bringing off the third consecutive victory in his record of achievements, in this legendary race.

For Multiplast, building this new large multihull will also be an opportunity to try to maintain their "builder title", following the victory of Franck Cammas on Groupama 3 in the last race.

After close to 11 months of build, Franck Cammas's monohull, built for the next Volvo Ocean Race, will arrive by road at the Groupama Sailing Team base in Lorient.

At 6:30 am on Saturday morning, the exceptional convoy will leave the boatyard, to rejoin the base of the sailing team in Lorient (arrival forecasted at 9h). This departure signifies the culmination of more than 40 000 hours of work for the 30 technicians in charge of the construction of this prototype.

Since December, the teams of Olivier Pavia and Fred Ehanno have been taking shifts 6 days per week to finish the first French Volvo 70 ever constructed.
