Naval construction
In partnership with Multiplast, STX, supported by the FUI (a French government fund for applied research) aims to find new solutions for the design of passenger ferries on deck areas including cabins and passenger zones.
The project aims to investigate yet untried approaches including the use of composites in passenger ships.
The project aims to:
- Create lighter structures whilst guaranteeing the structural integrity of the ship beams.
- Redefine the way available space is used, creating a structure with an increased amount of usable surface.
In consequence, opening new avenues for the interior design thanks to gains in modularity and use.
The project partners are STX Europe, SDI (Stirling Design Internationa), Multiplast, Méca, Nantes School of Engineering (Ecole Centrale de Nantes), the Institute of Research in Mechanical and Civil engineering (Institut de Recherche en Génie Civil et Mécanique), and the National School of Architecture (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture).
