Le-chantier-dintervention--LorientOrange II. Pit stop over...

______________________________________________________________________

Just 48 hours for Multiplast was all that was that needed to effect repairs to Orange II's crash box, still quayside in Lorient (Atlantic coast). On a 24/24 hour relay, the yard's teams worked in rotation to enable the maxi catamaran to set off again as quickly as possible...
Temperatures of between minus 3 and minus 4°C on Monday night meant that conditions weren't ideal for working with composites. But no matter, the Multiplast teams are well honed to these "commando" interventions after over 20 years that the yard has been building prototypes. Logistics manager, Patrick Cissé:

Crash-Box-du-catamaran-OrangeORANGE II. Express assistance!

______________________________________________________________________

On Thursday 19 February at 11.00 Gmt, Orange II announced the damage to its starboard bow – the crash box having disappeared during the night – and its return to Lorient (Atlantic coast). Multiplast Yard and the Gilles Ollier Design Team put together a skilled group whose rapid intervention should enable Orange II to be ready to set off again as soon as possible.
As Orange II began heading back to Lorient on Thursday afternoon, the Multiplast prototype team were preparing the foam blocks used in the replacement of the crash boxes. This operation basically consists of layering the sheets of foam to a 200 millimetre thickness. Meantime another team were organising the logistics so that the catamaran could be dismasted and lifted out of the water on its arrival.

______________________________________________________________________

Launched on 22nd December 2003 at the Multiplast shipyard in Vannes, the official naming ceremony of Orange II took place on 11th February in La Trinité-sur-Mer just a short distance from her birthplace. The naming honours being carried out by Olympic fencing champion Laura Flessel, and five times World Formula 1 Champion Alain Prost. After having spent a month and a half of sea trials and preparation, Orange II is ready to conquer the Jules Verne Trophy.
Orange is eager to set out on this record attempt. Bruno Peyron, skipper of Orange II : "if a weather window opens up in the next few days, we shall get going. The boat and her crew are ready, in spite of the 6 short weeks we've had to prepare. We would have liked to set out at the same time as the others, but they didn't wait."
