Geronimo ahead Orange !

Monday 10th March, after 58 days on the sea, Olivier de Kersauzon's maxi - trimaran has got a little advantage over Orange (few hours).To break the record - 64d 8h 37' 24", Geronimo will have to cross the finish line between Ushant and the Cap Lizard before sunday 16th march, 11h36'33'' GMT ! 
Kingfishers in Australia !13 days since kingfisher2 dismasted on her Jules Verne Trophy record attempt, Ellen and her crew arrived safely at 10h55' GMT (18h55 local time) in Fremantle, Australia. Kingfisher2 will be given a thorough inspection to try to identify the reasons of this dismasting. About the rest of the program, Mark Turner, the project manager said : " This Jules Verne was always planned as a one-shot attempt but of course we hope the huge amount of work that has gone in to optimising the big cat will not be wasted, and that she can continue to be campaigned..." 

Geronimo on a straight route to the Equator !

At 3h00 UTC, Friday 28th February 2003, Geronimo was 1636 miles from the Equator (by 30°W). In the same time, Orange was 2120 miles from this same point.
Geronimo is sailing on a straight route to the Equator, on a North North-Easterly course in a zone of light breeze. The route to the Equator remains extremely difficult, even though Geronimo is showing, once again, outstanding performance for that kind of weather and sea.
Kingfisher 2 under jury rig ! At 22h40 GMT Sunday, 23nd February 2003, Kingfisher2 dismasted. The 39.5 metre carbon mast (built by Profil/JMV in Cherbourg) broke in two places. The reason for the dismasting is not known. Now Kingfisher2 is sailing a Northely course above the 50th parallel to reach the SW coast of Australia.

Thursday 20th February 2003 - 19h.16'.13''GMT - Geronimo rounds Cape Horn and sets a new record time from Ushant to the mythical point. 
Olivier de Kersauzon improves Orange's time by one and a half days. Happy to leave the worst part of the course, Geronimo's skipper said : "The boat is absolutely as it should be. We've also had no injuries despite several impressive impacts and other exciting moments. Now, we just have to take advantage of this wonderful boat."
Record holders of the shortest passage to Cape Horn :
1. Geronimo – 40 days, 16 hours, 16 minutes, 04 seconds
2. Orange – 42 days, 02 hours, 52 minutes
