Round the world under sail record holder must go back to the water end of March, after winter time spent at Multiplast yard.
Orange 2 must quickly be afloat for her 2006 campaign. Program: possible start with the Discovery Road between Cadix (Spain) and San Salvador (Bahamas) and one of the nicest course, New-York / Lizard (UK).Keep in mind the record is still held by the 125-foot maxi catamaran PlayStation/Cheyenne of American Steve Fossett since 2001 in 4d 17h 59' 18'' at the average speed of 25.78 knots ; and in August 2004, Bruno Peyron has failed for just 31 minutes and 12 seconds to overlap Fossett. Orange 2 is so the second world time record holder on that course, having during this attempt smashed the 24-hour world record with 706.2 miles (29.42 kts average speed).

The idea of a very first short-distance race aimed exclusively at maxi-multihulls first saw the light of day one year ago. It is intended that in June 2007, the fleet will line up on the start in Le Morbihan, bound for Iceland and run a course of around 3200 miles / 6000 km. From the time the idea first sprung to mind, it has been supported by skippers and owners.
It has now taken shape to become what it is today. Details were unveiled on Le Morbihan's Regional Council at the International Paris Boat Show on 7th December 2005.

The construction of Groupama 3 got underway at the Multiplast yard some nine months ago. Groupama 3, is the 6th maxi-multihull nearly 100 feet (30 m) long to have been built by the yard since the year 2000. At the time of writing, mid-September 2005, the yard is halfway through the maxi-multi build process, the assembly of the main hull and forebeam being scheduled for the end of October.
But in order to get to the assembly stage, which will make the true scale of the multihull apparent – her beam of 75 feet (22,60 m) making her the widest trimaran in the world – a number of stages have been successfully completed by the Multiplast prototypists. The yard has made the pre-forms, the moulds, draped and oven-cured the 2 central half-hulls and fitted the bulkheads.
