30,000 hours of work later, the drawing of hundreds of plans and a huge number of meetings between Gitana Team, the naval architects (Verdier/VPLP) and Multiplast, the boat skipped by Sébastien Josse was launched today in front of Multiplast's yard. This 60ft monohull new-generation IMOCA is now ready to settle in Lorient, its home port, to receive its keel and mast then to start its sea trials.

Some foils, yes, but not only that...

This 5th generation boat of the IMOCA class has been built to win the Vendée Globe Race. The foils are the boat's most noticeable feature - once deployed, they decrease drag and increase the righting moment, with gain to speed always the absolute priority.

Beyond the foils, each detail has been studied carefully to ensure that it has been optimised : The steering system, ballast, interior structures and more were designed to the ideal weight and to deliver maximum efficiency, reliability, and ease of use.

A positive partnership

From the beginning of the project there was a real synergy between Multiplast and Gitana Team. Cyril Dardashti, Gitana Team General Manager has spoken about this important relationship: "Today's launch of the Mono60 Edmond of Rothschild brings to an end 11 months of intense work. I would like to thank Yann Penfornis and the Multiplast team for their involvement, their thoroughness and their availability throughout the process - they really pushed the schedule for us so that we could launch the boat on time. From the very beginning of the project, what we wanted was a true partnership rather than simply the provision of a service. That is exactly what we got from Multiplast and I like to think that both sides have learned a lot from this collaboration - I know we have. The constant interchanges of information between Multiplast and our design office - conducted under the guidance of Pierre Tissier - allowed us to arrive at a boat that is optimised to the max. The quality that we were looking for is really there. We can't wait to validate this fine work on the water."

Based on this successful experience, we are delighted to report that the Baron Benjamin de Rothschild's Sailing Racing Team has chosen Multiplast to build its next boat, a maxi-multihull boat over 100ft in length. The construction will start this autumn for a launching planned in mid-2017

Don't miss it...
