Orange II, on her Atlantic record attempt, is the first world sailing boat to overtake the mythical 700 miles step in 24 hours. Exactly 706.2 miles with an average speed of 29.42 knots ! (under ratification by the Wssrc).
A focus in the aims of the giant catamaran Orange II, designed by the Gilles Ollier Design Team and built in the new Multiplast shed located in Vannes (South Britanny/France).Sailing all over the time over 30 knots with Bruno Peyron as skipper, the crew of 9 has been enough helpful to sail that machine created for long offshore runs, on a very high level.

 

Besides, it was on that same course than Maiden II – ex Club Med – coskippered by Brian Thomson ands Helena Darvelid, has done the previous record of 694 miles in June 2002. That catamaran also built by Multiplast, have been the first sailing boat to overtake the 600 miles step in June 2000 during her qualification passage for The Race between Cadix (Spain) and San Salvador (Bahamas). She has New Zealander Grant Dalton as skipper and...Bruno Peyron as co-skipper. For the record, Credit AgricoleIII, an other catamaran built by Multiplast, have been the first to make a 24-hour run of 500 miles in 1984...

About the Atlantic Record hold during 13 years by boats designed by the Gilles Ollier Design team and built by Multiplast, it could be broken in the hours coming if Orange II cross the finishing line at the Lizard point (UK) before Wednesday August 25 at 15h 12' 44" Gmt. Today 24 August at 14h00 Gmt, Orange II has still 638,7 miles to go in 25 h 12' 44", keeping an average speed of 25,33 knots to succeed.
