Doha 2006 still ahead
_____________________________________________________________________
Since the start of the race February 5, and a close battle with trimaran Geronimo alongside Australian West coasts, Doha leads in that atypical round the world. She actually sails in South Atlantic towards Cape of Good Hope, last but one important mark before Mauritius Island and back in Persian Gulf.
Sure, since Cheyenne has dismasted alongside Argentinean coasts and the retirement of Geronimo in Indian Ocean, game is less passionate for Doha 2006 who is today more than 3500 miles ahead Deadelus. Never the less, she sails quick and properly, and confirm her supremacy. The proof of it is, with different skippers, that generation of boats design by the Gilles Ollier Design Team and built by Multiplast shipyard, remains extremely high-performance machines. Brian Thomson
and his crew has made many tracks over 600 miles in 24 hours in the South Pacific ; and have always been able to keep their opponents in the wake of Doha.
A boat of reference
We will remind than Doha 2006 (Ex Club Med, winner of The Race 2001), have been many times the 24-hour record holder with 625.7 and 655.12 miles ; and under Maiden II colours (till with Brian Thomson as skipper), the holder of a fantastic track with 694.78 miles in 24 hours, just 11.42 small miles behind Orange II who is the first to go over the 700 miles barrier in 24 hours with 706.2 miles. She is the actual world 24-hour record holder.
There are still 6400 miles to run for Doha 2006 to end her RTW, with a very tactical navigation to do on the way back to the Qatar in the Indian Ocean and in the Persian Gulf.
