The Sodebo skipper has just confirmed his choice of boat-yard Multiplast to undertake the transformation necessary to get maxi-trimaran 'Geronimo' ready to compete in a range of races, the first objective being the 2014 Route du Rhum.
A magnificent challenge...
2013 has started well for the Vannes based yard ; a few weeks away from the delivery of the 1st one-design deck for the Volvo Ocean Race, this new order will represent a build worth several months of work for the teams at Multiplast.
Dominique Dubois, CEO of Multiplast S.A.S "To convert this trimaran, which left our yard a few years ago for Olivier de Kersauson, into a machine potentially capable of winning the next solo Route du Rhum, is a superb challenge". A challenge which will take place as soon as the drawings are received from the naval architects VPLP, neighbours of the Multiplast yard.
3 in a row.
"3 in a row.." It's in these terms that the Multiplast teams have welcomed this new order. "We have done the most we can to win the trust of the Sodebo team. The Route du Rhum has long escaped boats launched by Multiplast but with Franck Cammas's 2010 victory in this race, we are keen to keep Multiplast in the winner's list for this challenge. This boat, helmed by a skipper like Thomas, gives us another chance to achieve this objective" asserts Yann Penfornis
With the 31.5m trimaran helmed by Armel le Cléach (ex-Groupama 3) and Prince de Bretagne skippered by Lionel Lemonchois, Sodebo will be the 3rd maxi multihull actually built at Multiplast to line up at the start of the next Route du Rhum in November 2014. This next race offers a magnificent opportunity to revitalise these giant multihulls.
The work starts in the coming weeks.
